For Juniors and Seniors in biology, chemistry & biochemistry, computer science, engineering, mathematics, and physics. 

Purpose: 

The NIH Undergraduate Research Initiative for Science Enhancement (NIH U-RISE) aims to support students from underrepresented groups, including those from underrepresented ethnic groups (for example, African American, Native American, Hispanic/Latino, and Pacific Islander), first-generation students, those with disabilities, and low-income students for biomedical careers by providing academic support and a stimulating research experience. The goal of the program is to prepare each participant for entrance into a competitive graduate program and successful completion of a PhD in the biomedical or physical sciences.

  • $14,340/year plus 60% or more of in-state tuition
  • Weekly Colloquium
  • Summer research internship at SF State after Junior year
  • Academic year research until graduation
  • Travel to a major scientific meeting to share research results

 

Applicant eligibility:

Must be a SF State student (or are currently applying to become one)
Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
Must commit to research one year or more
